Sunnah-Hadıth
A little before his death, during the Farewell Sermon, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) stated that he had left the Muslims two things: “I leave behind me two things, the Quran and the sunnah, and if you follow these you will never go astray.” The companions who heard these words followed the Quran and the sunnah during their lives, passing them onto the succeeding generations with the same care. Thus, the sunnah and the hadith, which are based on the life of the Prophet, have constituted a significant cultural unity for Muslims over the centuries. In the Quran, the basic source of Islam, Allah Almighty places the Prophet and his sunnah in a very distinguished position; Allah explicitly states that obedience to the Prophet is obedience to Him. From time to time in Islamic communities, the function, source and value of the sunnah in religion have been discussed from different aspects. Although there are different opinions, no one has ever denied that there is a need to study the life of the Prophet from reliable sources and with determined methods to better understand the religion. There has always been an objective, just and moderate interpretation of the sunnah. |
