Windows® Defender 
Brief Description
Windows Defender is a free program that helps you stay productive by protecting your computer against pop-ups, slow performance and security threats caused by spyware and other potentially unwanted software. Windows Defender no longer supports Windows 2000 as mainstream support ended in June 2005.
1. Look for the Internet Explorer Information Bar (see Figure 1) near the top of your Web browser.

2. Right-click the Information Bar and click Install ActiveX Control in the menu (see Figure 2).

Note If the Install ActiveX Control command is not displayed in the Information Bar menu, you will need to use the Alternate Validation Method described below.
3. In the Security Warning dialog box, click Install.
Alternate Validation Method
Depending on your version of Windows, the Web browser you are using, or your browser security setting, you may not see the Internet Explorer Information Bar displayed in your browser, or the Information Bar menu may not include the Install ActiveX Control command. You can follow these instructions for an alternate method to validate your Windows installation:
